Abaddam is a remake version of the Tamil film "Poi". It is a romance-based film in which Vemana (Uday Kiran) is the son of a great politician. He runs away from home to Sri Lanka after a fight with his idealistic father. He starts his life anew.
Vemana falls in love with a Telugu girl, Shilpa (Vimala) at first sight. Shilpa visits her sister in Colombo. She wants to become a civil servant. She feels that love and marriage are obstacles for women who want a career.
The rest of the story revolves around his emotional conflict between his career and love.
