Madhu is a successful playback singer married to Chandramathi, a well-meaning but coarse, betel-chewing village woman. Despite their glaring differences, they share a loving marriage with their four children. However, their dynamic shifts when Lekha, a sophisticated urban model and singer, enters their lives. Captivated by Lekha's elegance, the children begin to favor her over their mother. Feeling inadequate despite her sincere attempts to modernize, a heartbroken Chandramathi leaves home with her youngest child. She believes Lekha would be a better wife for Madhu and a better mother for their kids. Unable to bear the pain of giving up her husband, she eventually returns in tears to stop Madhu and Lekha's wedding. To her surprise, she discovers the ceremony is a fake setup orchestrated by Madhu and Lekha to bring her back. Proving his unconditional love, Madhu happily remarries his one true love, Chandramathi.
