To gain popularity at college, Rajiv (Shahid Kapoor) convinces his childhood friend Payal (Amrita Rao) to become his girlfriend, though he only intends to date her briefly. Payal, who has secretly loved Rajiv for years, believes the relationship is genuine. During a beach vacation, an intoxicated Rajiv mistreats Payal, causing them to break up. Rajiv then pursues the glamorous new student Alisha, while a heartbroken Payal grows closer to their friend Mambo. Despite their new relationships, Rajiv and Payal secretly remain drawn to each other, leading to jealousy and conflict. Eventually, Rajiv realizes his true feelings for Payal. After a heartfelt apology and public declaration of love, Payal forgives him, while Alisha graciously accepts that Rajiv and Payal truly belong together.
