Dev.D tells its story in three intertwined chapters. Paro focuses on Paro, a middle-class girl in Chandigarh whose romance with her wealthy, spoiled childhood sweetheart, Dev, falls apart when he believes fabricated rumors about her past. Outraged by his chauvinism, she leaves him and marries another. Chanda follows Leni, a half-European Delhi student whose life is ruined by an MMS sex scandal. Ostracized and following her father's suicide, she reinvents herself as a high-class sex worker named Chanda, finding independence. Dev D shifts to Dev, who plunges into alcoholism and drug abuse out of heartbreak. He meets Chanda and momentarily finds solace, but his prejudices drive her away. After a tragic drunk-driving accident that shatters his world, a broken Dev finally seeks rehabilitation and begs for Chanda's forgiveness to rebuild his life.
