In Bombay, Chitti Babu, a street photographer, lives with his roommate Pyarelal. At the airport, Chitti spots Raga Sudha and falls in love. During a police chase, a thief drops a stolen gold chain into Sudha's bag, which eventually ends up with Chitti. Discovering her photo inside, Chitti pretends to be rich, making her chase him for the bag. When Sudha learns the truth, she feels cheated, but an accident lands Chitti in the hospital, rekindling her love.
Sudha's mother, Dhana Lakshmi, discovers the romance and takes Sudha to Hyderabad to arrange a marriage, opposing their relationship. Chitti rescues Dhana Lakshmi from goons sent by her treacherous manager and introduces himself as J.D., earning a job as Sudha’s bodyguard. En route to Srisailam for Sudha's forced wedding, the manager kidnaps her and attempts assault. Chitti Babu's true identity is revealed; he defeats the manager and marries Sudha with her mother's blessing.
