Vallavan, a carefree college student, falls in love with Swapna, a lecturer three years his senior. Knowing her reluctance regarding the age gap, he woos her disguised as "Pallan," a man with an unconventional "ugly duckling" appearance. Swapna falls for his personality but ends the relationship upon discovering he is actually a younger student.
Compounding his troubles is Geetha, a toxic and hysterical ex-girlfriend from Vallavan's school days. Obsessed with him, she returns to sabotage his life and is revealed as the source of his current romantic mishaps. Vallavan eventually convinces Swapna that true love transcends age, leading to their reconciliation.
In a dramatic climax, the unstable Geetha kidnaps their friend Suji, but Vallavan rescues her. The film ends three years later with Geetha's release from a mental asylum; she remains psychotic, and Vallavan confronts her telepathically, asserting she can no longer harm him.
