The film resolves around two childhood friends Vikram Singh (Shatrughan Sinha) and Ajay Singh (Amitabh Bachchan). Ajay singh grows up and becomes a Doctor (A messiah for the peasants) while Vikram Singh takes over his ancestors' inheritance, and fits into the mighty shoes of a Typical Thakur. Conflict begins between their friendship when Vikram Singh's henchman Shamsher Singh abducts a peasant girl. Dr Ajay gets Shamsher Singh arrested and thus the bitterness starts. This causes rivalry between the two, and the rest of the drama is on how the two battle out their differences and in the end once again re-unite to fight the villains.
