Bharat becomes the sole support of his struggling Delhi family after his father retires. Though educated, he can only find poorly paid work, while his brother Vijay turns to crime before later joining the army. Bharat’s girlfriend Sheetal, unwilling to embrace poverty, leaves him for the wealthy Mohan Babu, deepening his despair after he also loses his job and father. Forced by hardship, Bharat begins working for the corrupt Nekiram, but later decides to expose him. Nekiram frames Bharat, and his younger brother Deepak, now a police officer, is assigned to arrest him. Vijay returns to help Bharat fight back. In the final clash, Sheetal, regretting her choices, sacrifices her life. With help from Vijay, Deepak, Mohan Babu, and Harnam Singh, Bharat defeats Nekiram and his gang. At the end, Bharat finds comfort and a new future with Tulsi.
