Balachandran is a reclusive bachelor and fertilizer company accountant with a deep passion for literature. Living in a small Kochi lodge, he struggles with writer's block while writing a novel. A publisher named Shivadasan reads the manuscript and enthusiastically urges Balachandran to finish it, confident of its success.
Balachandran also secretly finances the medical treatment of a girl named Fathima. His life brightens when Padma, his former college girlfriend who is now separated from her husband, calls him. Reinvigorated, he finishes his novel and plans to visit his hometown, Kozhikode, for Fathima’s heart surgery and to reunite with Padma. To afford the surgery, he sells his land.
That night, his Muslim lodge owner, Feroz Babu, is unjustly arrested on terror charges. Balachandran argues with the police, leading to both their releases. He then boards a bus to Kozhikode with his cash and manuscript, but tragically, he is killed in a bomb explosion on the bus the next morning.
