Bhoopathy, a carefree youth from Pollachi, is sent by his strict father to stay with his friend Vishwanathan in Chennai to learn responsibility. There, he constantly bickers with Vishwanathan's daughter Priya, who is engaged to Prakash. Eventually, Priya falls in love with Bhoopathy. He loves her too, but honoring his father's demand not to shame him, he distances himself.
During a trip to Ooty, a drunken Bhoopathy confesses his feelings. Later, a photo of them holding hands is taken. On the eve of Priya's wedding, Bhoopathy's father discovers their romance. Prakash’s father also sees the photo and demands ₹1 crore to proceed, which Vishwanathan refuses. Priya's aunt reveals the true love between Bhoopathy and Priya to Vishwanathan. Meanwhile, Bhoopathy tries to convince Prakash to marry Priya. Seeing Bhoopathy's selfless sacrifice, Vishwanathan calls off the arranged marriage and accepts their relationship. In the end, Bhoopathy marries Priya.
