Raised by ruthless gangster Rudra, the amnesiac orphan Bangaram becomes an unstoppable killing machine whenever his holy wedding chain is removed. Years later, living unkempt in a cage, Bangaram wanders into a music shop owned by Vasudev, a blind pianist who lives with his adopted daughter Gayatri.
After surviving a gang war, a wounded Bangaram seeks refuge with Vasudev. Gayatri civilizes him, renaming him Guru. Guru falls in love with her, and she reciprocates. Soon after, Guru regains memories of his murdered mother, Thulasi. Seeking the truth, Guru discovers that Rudra framed Vasudev—who is actually Guru's real father—for Thulasi's death and blinded him. Vasudev had adopted Gayatri after her parents were killed by Rudra's men. Recognizing his father, Guru is attacked by Rudra. Gayatri removes Guru's wedding chain, unleashing his fury to destroy the gangsters. Finally reunited with his true family, Guru is asked by Gayatri to tie the wedding chain around her neck.
