When he finds that former freedom fighters have given up their idealism and are betraying their country to make money, he fights them. He tries to stop the traitors but in the process, he loses his family.
His wife (Hema Malini) becomes a victim of leprosy and settles in a slum. They meet after many years and he finds that she still loves him. When he moves in with his family, he finds the slum divided into four sections - Punjabi, Bengali, Muslim and South Indian. Each section has a slumlord to rule over it. No one thinks of himself as an Indian except Masterji. His son Raju (Amitabh) too has turned into an underworld character.
When Masterji comes to know about his son’s activities, he hands him over to the police. However, Raju escapes from the police and sets about vanquishing the traitors.
