Raghu (Sanjay Dutt) is the younger son in a family living in a chawl in Bombay. His elder brother, Vijay (Mohnish Behl), is educated but jobless. Raghu is the leader of the unemployed in the neighborhood. Raghu's father is fed up of his son, who has not been able to clear matriculation despite umpteen attempts. Raghu starts a small business with help from his father. Chawl boy Raghu trying to make a living out of a pav-bhaji stall, gets into a scrap with gangsters and ends up becoming a don himself, under the patronage of the home minister Baban Rao Kadam (Mohan Joshi). Raghu now has everything money can buy, but not the love and blessings of his parents. Sonu (Namrata Shirodkar), is a prostitute whom Raghu visits. She comes into Raghu’s life as a ray of light. Raghu is tired of the killing and hooliganism and wants to get out of the ugly underworld for the sake of his wife Sonu and their son. Is he able to get out of this mess? This is director Mahesh Manjrekar’s debut film, and he does not disappoint.
