Synopsis:
A poor farmer (Periyadarshan) has two daughters, the younger of whom is named "Karuthamma", the main protagonist of the story. Upon learning that his wife gives birth to a third daughter, in a fit of anger; decides to give the child to a village nurse instructing her to kill it. However before the child is to be killed a schoolteacher (Sundarajan) decides to adopt the child. As time passes it is time for periyadarshan's elder daughter (Saranya) to get married and she too delivers a female child. The husband (Ponvanan) and the mother-in-low (Vadivukarasi) are both annoyed over this.

A veterniary doctor comes to the village. (Raja) He falls in love with raja shree and both like each other. Raja shree elder sister (Saranya) delivers a third female child the husband (Ponvannan) attempts to kill the child and in the encounter both the saranya and the child gets killed. When raja shree comes to know about this she informs the police and ponvannan is arrested. Periyadarshan suddenly gets paralytic attack. A beautiful lady doctor (Maheswari) comes to the village, Who loves raja. Maheswari treats and takes care of periyardhasan without knowing that shi is treating her father and periyardhasan also does not know that she is her daughter. Later sundarajan the school teacher informs periyardhasan that she was his daughter, Whom he insisted to be killed when she was born.
