Saraswati, played by Waheeda Rehman is the widowed mother of three sons Om, Jai and Jagadish. Om, played by Anil Kapoor is the eldest and earns a living for the entire family by working in a music company owned by his friend Shekhar Malhotra. Jai, played by Fardeen Khan is studying the US, while Jagadish, played by Abhishek Bachchan is studying in Bombay and good with computers. After Saraswati’s insistence, Jai finally returns to India. Om marries Ayesha, played by Mahima Cahudhary and Jai marries Neetu, played by Urmila Matondkar, daughter of a wealthy NRI.
Jagadish is in love with Pooja, played by Tara Sharma who he had met at a college festival. Jai has his own set of values, when they clash with his elder brother’s, they drift apart. Jai soon leaves with Neelu for the US, where he gets a promotion in his job. Jagadish unfortunately gets caught hacking into a computer system, when he tries to help a friend get answers to an exam. A furious Om throws him out of the house. When Om fails to pay for house loan, his mother, wife and him are forced to leave the house. The house is put on auction and Om is surprised to see that Jai and Jagadish are the bidders. All the brothers accumulate enough money and buy the house back. The brothers finally unite and move back into the house soon.
