Ramchand Pakistani tells the story of a Dalit Hindu family living peacefully in Pakistan, near the India–Pakistan border. After an argument with his mother Champa, 8‑year‑old Ramchand runs away in anger and accidentally crosses into India. His father Shankar follows to find him and also crosses the border. Both are arrested by Indian border security and sent to prison, where they remain for years due to mistakes and bureaucratic delays, often as unregistered prisoners during a period of near‑war tension between the two countries. Meanwhile, Champa lives in loneliness, briefly taking a job far from her village before returning home, still waiting for news of her family. After five years, a now older Ramchand is finally released and reunites with his mother, and Shankar is freed soon after, bringing the family back together at the end of the film.
