Major Ranjit Singh (Sanjay Dutt) survives a cross-border clash with the terrorist Bakhtawar but loses his memory after severe torture. Believed dead by his village, Ranjit is eventually released back to India and hospitalized. His devoted wife Pummy (Tabu) and sister Simran attempt to trigger his memories by recounting his and Pummy's turbulent love story. When Bakhtawar resurfaces in India to orchestrate a bombing campaign, Ranjit's instincts kick in. During a tense confrontation, a gunshot wound miraculously restores his memory. Determined to end the terrorist threat, Ranjit uses Simran's wedding to lure out and successfully arrest Bakhtawar. However, the hard-won victory is short-lived; a subsequent commercial plane hijacking forces the Indian government to release Bakhtawar in exchange for the civilian hostages.
