The story is about five people- Cable Raja (silambarasan) hails from a slum and dreams of becoming rich. He also has a rich girlfriend (jasmin) and the plan is to marry her so he pretends to be a rich boy. His test comes when he is supposed to meet her parents during the New Year's eve which has an entry fee of Rs 40000, has Raja got the money? Then there is Saroja (anushka), a prostitute who is desperate to escape from a brothel wants to reach Chennai to start a new life. Is she successful? Bharath (bharath) is an aspirant to become a rock star and goes against the wishes of his parents to come to Chennai and take part in a concert. He has his girlfriend (vega) and she gets abducted by few goons on the way. How does he handle that? Hamid (prakashraj) is in search of his brother who flees home after the riots. Earlier, his pregnant wife, his brother and himself get caught in a right wing procession and get insulted. Finally, there is Revathi (saranya) a struggling weaver along with her father-in-law who owe money to a loan shark. She doesn't want her son to become a bonded labourer so she decides to give her kidney through a broker. Is she successful in that? Fate gets all of them at one point. What happens in the end forms the rest of the story.
The story begins with the kidnapping of Sukanya (sameera) and her boyfriend (ashwin) is killed brutally. In comes the investigating cop S P Vijay (deva) and he discovers a girl behind this. As a result, Vijay reaches a bungalow in the city outskirts and here he comes across Samar (veera). This teenager reveals his flashback which involves his sexually abused childhood, his relation with neighbour Meenakshi (swapna abraham) and how her marriage leads to a killing spree. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
